5 first moves every founder made

The pattern across ten conversations.
Ten interviews in, one thing keeps repeating: nobody's first move was the big, brave leap you'd expect from watching the highlight reel. It was small, specific, and almost boring.
Here's the pattern across every founder we've had on the show.
1. They told one person. Not a crowd or social media, just a single person who could hold them to it. Sarah told her old manager she was starting a business before she'd built anything.
2. They sent the email they were dreading. Marcus's entire business traces back to one cold email he nearly didn't send. The version that worked was shorter and more honest than the one he'd been drafting for weeks.
3. They gave themselves a deadline shorter than felt comfortable. They chose "this Friday" instead of "this year." A tight deadline forces a small first step instead of a perfect plan.
4. They spent money before they were ready. It was usually under £50 for a domain, a course, or a tool. Small money makes the idea real in a way thinking never does.
5. They told someone who could say no. Priya pitched her first client before she had a website, a logo, or a business bank account. Getting a no early is cheaper than getting one late.
None of these moves required confidence. They just needed to happen before confidence arrived. Confidence, it turns out, is mostly a side effect of having already started.
